MINT SPLINTER!!!... The "Splendid Splinter" as he was commonly called, not only handled the bat better than anyone who ever stepped into a batter's box and also served two stints as a fighter pilot in World War II and the Korean War. Both his baseball iconic stature and wartime heroism led to him being the true embodiment of a National hero. This Ted Williams 1957 Topps #1 card personifies his quest of being "second to none". His presence on this SGC 96 MINT 9 achieved crème of the crop status in the baseball card industry.
To date, SGC has graded over 400 examples with a pair grading the same and nothing getting the higher nod. The perfect follow through swing of Ted is registered with a crystal clear stadium backdrop. All four bright white borders are well centered and the perimeter exhibits razor sharp edging and four razor sharp corner tips. The back of the card is also spectacular as if it was opened out of a wax pack right on front of us. How this #1 card managed to sustain its original pristine quality throughout 54 years is beyond belief. One of the nicest examples of this tough #1 card we have ever seen. Own the best!!!
