1978 Franco Harris Game-Used Steelers Durene Jersey (with 5 Team Repairs; from Super Bowl Season) Steiner LOA
FRANCO HARRIS GAME USED JERSEY!!!... Franco Harris was without doubt the cornerstone to the Pittsburgh Steelers dominance in the 70's. No matter how good the passing game, rushing yardage is essential for a teams success. Pittsburgh's Terry Bradshaw had Lynn Swann and John Stallworth as options when he tore apart oppositions defense. Ultimately, it was the rough and tumble running of Franco Harris that brought the most success to Pittsburgh. Not the flashiest runner, but the most efficient of all time. When he finished his career he owned 4 Super Bowl Rings, and had rushed for 12,120 and scored 91 touchdowns. But, Franco will be remembered for the most remarkable play in NFL history, the "Immaculate Reception".
Everybody remembers Bradshaw drifting back on a 4th and 10 against the hated Raiders late in a Dec 23, 1972 AFC Divisional contest and unloading a desperation heave in the direction of Frenchie Fuqua. The ball caromed off Fuqua, retrieved in mid-air by Franco who then galloped to the end zone for an improbable touchdown. This was the Steelers first playoff win and it anticipated four Super Bowl titles. Who knows, if Harris hadn't been there, the Steelers may never have forged the dynasty they did. This jersey was worn by the Hall of Famer in 1978, while rostering with possibly the finest Steeler team ever.
That season saw Pittsburgh demolish opponents and finish 14-2 during the regular season. Pittsburgh dominated the Dallas Cowboys in one of the more memorable Super Bowls. This durene jersey is tagged for use in 1978, and was most likely worn down the stretch. Early on, the Steelers wore short-sleeved jerseys when the weather was accommodating. With the arrival of November snow, they switched to a full-sleeve look. This is the full-sleeve jersey with built in reinforcements. Great use is demonstrated on the shirt, highlighted by five team repairs. Denny Esken, a foremost authority in Steeler jerseys, has given his full validation to this jersey. Four repairs appear on the front, with the most pronounced stitching (1") appearing between the front "3" and "2". A smaller repair is located near that repair as well. Another repair was made below the left shoulder, and a fourth is located near the right shoulder. A final repair was effected on the verso, near the top of the numerals.
The numerals on the back are scuffed from the multitude of hits Franco took. All of the identifiers show consistent and even use. "HARRIS" is sewn to a nameplate in two-color gold and black, and the numerals are sewn on in single-color black. Tail tagging includes a year tag and Medalist Sand Knit swatch. The Sand Knit tag is glue-affixed, while the year tag is sewn into the jersey. Both appear to be in their original order. One of the finest Harris jerseys ever made available, and one from an equally historic period for the Steelers. Come with multiple LOA's including Steiners and American.
